Just a quickie for you guys today 😉
Instagram, for the first time ever, have recently released a series of content recommendations, or guidelines.
While it has widely been speculated before exactly the type of content that will limit your reach this is the first time it has been explicitly stated.
The good news is, if you’re not engaging in black hat or predatory behaviour, you’re unlikely to be penalised. However, what Instagram considers black hat behaviour may be slipping you up.
What content could be penalised?
For example, competitions and giveaways asking for likes or follows are frowned upon – as well as resulting in a lower engaged follower base.
Predatory behaviour or misleading claims like ‘risk-free investments’, ‘miracle weight loss cures’ and anything relating to misinformation (looking at you, anti-vaxxers) is also penalised.
Instagram is trying to crack down on ‘clickbait’ or ‘engagement bait’ style posts. Click this post for 7 years of good luck! Like this post or else X will happen! Not great content by any means, and so not great for Instagram’s algorithm.
Where do I find the guidelines?
The guidelines can be found on Instagram’s ‘Help’ portal. If you’d like me to break these down in more detail you can leave a comment below, or, you can read the full guidelines for yourself here!
